How does Reiki work?

Ok, here’s the “sciency“ bit….

Everything in the Universe is composed of energy running at varying vibrations, which makes them solid, liquid or gas. The cells of our bodies vibrate at their own specific frequencies and if these are disturbed for any reason, by illness, anxiety, poor food choices, stress, lack of sleep etc, we have dis-ease.

A reiki practitioner is attuned to the universal energy and with hands on healing helping to rebalance the energy centres or Shakras in the body.

Scientific studies have shown big improvements in many common ailments as well as reduced pain levels after surgeries, or in chronic conditions such as arthritis. Many interesting studies are available to read at the Complementary medical association website www.the-cma.org.uk.

What is a reiki session like?

You will lie on a couch (or in a chair if that’s difficult for you) fully clothed and relax listening to some calming background music. I’ll use essential oil, if that’s ok with you, on my hands and they will hover above parts of your body, or rest on you if you are happy with that, as I sense where I need to help.

Clients may be aware of warmth or gentle tingling around my hands, others feel nothing but the effects are the same whatever. You will feel very relaxed, clients often zone out completely, and are amazed when the session ends and an hour has passed.

There are no contraindications or side effects, as we all have energy and without realising either deplete it or top it up every day by accident! Being outdoors in nature is beneficial, being busy and stressed is not. Clients often report having an amazing sleep after a reiki session and feeling calm and chilled for some time after. What’s not to love!

What does it feel like being hypnotised?

Hypnosis is the ultimate in relaxation - the ancient Greek word Hypnos is sleep.

You’ll be aware of much of what I am saying, I use only words to guide your subconscious into making the choices you want. It’s only job is to keep you safe, and it will lose the way sometimes. I will use carefully chosen words and phrases to guide your subconscious to find the best way for you to deal with any given situation. From pain to phobias, sleep to weight loss your deeper mind is in control, and we just talk it through and find better ways to think about an issue. Relaxing in a comfy chair, on Zoom or in person if that’s possible you’ll listen to my voice and relax deeply, and we will work together to quickly resolve whatever is bothering you. You will spend time relaxing then you’ll be aware of me asking you to come back to fully awake and will feel its morning and your alarm has gone off, a stretch and a yawn, all done!

How many will I need, I can’t afford the time or money for lot’s of sessions?

Most issues are cleared in two or maybe three sessions. This style of hypnosis goes to the heart of the problem quickly and effectively. I don’t even have to know the actual issue if you’d rather not be specific, although confidentiality is guaranteed.

Will I cluck like a chicken afterwards or eat raw onions, I’ve seen that on the telly? - Nope, unless of course that’s something you like to do 😉

I am just helping your clever subconscious to help you in the way you’d like. I do not plant any silly suggestions, the old stage hypnotists used hypnosis for entertainment, I use it in a therapeutic way to affect positive change quickly.

In eight two hour chunks (this can be adapted) you have practice to do, involving listening to lovely relaxation tracks each day together, and baby also benefits! Many clients report ultra chilled babies who love when mum puts on the familiar tracks after they are born, it’s a win win!

Birth partners are also able to participate fully in the birth experience armed with the knowledge they need and the power to help the labouring mum, having worked through the course together and discussing potential choices which may come up, and being armed with answers before the event.

Anecdotal evidence suggests very few incidences of birth related trauma and post natal depression in hypnobirthing mums.
